Funding Allocated for Nine Community Projects in County Clare in CLÁR Announcement
Almost €600,000 has been awarded to nine community projects across County Clare under the CLÁR programme.
The funding, part of a national allocation by the Minister for Rural and Community Development, will support the enhancement of local amenities, school facilities, sports clubs, and community infrastructure in rural areas.
Welcoming the announcement, Cathaoirleach of Clare County Council, Cllr Paul Murphy, stated, “This funding is a welcome boost for communities across County Clare. Each of these projects will enhance local facilities that are used daily by families, schools, sports clubs, and residents. I want to thank the community groups involved for their hard work in securing this funding and for their ongoing commitment to improving their areas.”
The CLÁR (Ceantair Laga Árd-Riachtanais) programme provides targeted investment in rural areas that have faced significant population decline. The programme supports schools, community groups, sports clubs, and voluntary organisations in delivering local projects that benefit children, families, and wider communities. This year’s allocations across Clare will fund upgrades to playgrounds, walking tracks, car parks, public toilets, and community sports facilities.
Minister for Social Protection and Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, Dara Calleary, said, “The CLÁR programme continues to provide vital support in some of our most remote rural areas. These projects help build strong resilient and vibrant communities through the enhancement of existing community facilities and the provision of new amenities to support young and old across a range of services.
The nine Clare projects receiving a total of €596,885 in funding are; Dromindoora National School, Caher, with an upgrade of pathway leading to astroturf at National School for €58,500; Ogonnelloe Hurling Club, Carrowcore, for the renovation of community rooms for €65,000; Cooraclare GAA, Cooraclare, with the enhancement and extension of public walking track for €65,000; Ennistymon Community School, Ennistymon, for installation of new multi-use games areas for €100,000; Kildysart Playground, Kildysart, for the upgrade of the community playground for €57,050; Shannon Gaels GAA Club, Kilmurry McMahon, for a public toilet upgrade for €27,000; Coolmeen GAA, Kilrush, for an upgrade of the existing parking area and construction of new ball wall for €65,000; St Joseph’s Miltown Malbay GAA, Miltown Malbay, for a car park upgrade at €59,335; and finally Bridge Celtic AFC & Bridgetown National School, Bridgetown, for a new astroturf pitch for €100,000.
Senior Executive Officer of Rural and Community Development at Clare County Council, Leonore O'Neill, joined the Cathaoirleach in welcoming the news, saying, “These projects reflect the ambition and dedication of local groups who continually work to provide high-quality amenities for their communities. Today’s announcement will help deliver safer, more accessible, and more enjoyable public spaces for people of all ages in towns and villages across Clare.”
